The Panel: Poilievre's no-pivot pivot

What does the Conservative leader need to accomplish at his big weekend rally?

In yet another big week in politics, I convened The Panel to talk about everything that’s happening. And about what’s about to happen.

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre is planning a big rally in Ottawa this weekend. (I’m a little surprised to find details online.) It’s a big moment for Poilievre, following a sustained slide in the polls. Can the Conservative leader change his message for a world of Donald Trump and Mark Carney? Does he even want to?

Also: Why is the NDP so happy with 16% in the polls? Should the rest of the Liberal leadership just pack it in and let Mark Carney assume his destiny? And how did Stephen Harper manage to find a tone that escapes so many of today’s leaders?

You know and love The Panel:

  • Marci Surkes, who was Justin Trudeau’s policy director from 2019 to 2022 and is now Chief Strategy Officer at Compass Rose;

  • Garry Keller, who was chief of staff to John Baird in government and Rona Ambrose in opposition, and is now a Vice President at StrategyCorp;

  • and Allison Gifford, who worked with Jack Layton in 2011 and is now VP (Policy and Public Affairs) at Clear Strategy.

We’re making this content easier to find and use than it has been until now. First, The Panel will anchor my new Youtube channel, which isn’t the same as the old Youtube channel. Go like and subscribe to all the stuff you find there. Here’s this week’s episode on Youtube.

Second, by popular demand, this episode is going out as audio on all the podcast channels where you usually find it.

Obviously my goal is to become even more of a full-service operation as a federal election approaches. Your support, as always, helps make all of this happen.
