I invited Liberal leadership candidates to sit for interviews as the party prepares to choose its next leader. Karina Gould took me up on the invitation. I’m happy to share the interview with the MP for Burlington, who’s had a succession of cabinet roles including Minister of Democratic Institutions and Government House Leader.
Leadership candidate Frank Baylis also made himself available for an interview. After reading his campaign material and watching some other interviews he’s given, I decided not to follow through. I don’t think I’m required to take up your time with every single candidate for any office, and I didn’t find Baylis had much to say. Gould, who’s drawn considerable interest among Liberals even though she must be counted a long shot, was different, and I think we had a good conversation.
Invitations to Mark Carney and Chrystia Freeland remain open, and of course we’ll all know more about all of these people after this week’s debates.
