The PM’s face when he says he wishes he could do electoral reform over

(Previously: “Delivering the absolute best future”)

In the second half of his podcast interview with Justin Trudeau, Liberal MP Nate Erskine-Smith asks about regrets: “What do you see as, ‘Aw, if I could have that one back, I would do it differently the next time’?”

The prime minister doesn’t hesitate. “Electoral reform.”

This is a pet issue of Erskine-Smith’s, but Trudeau insists he’s not just saying it to flatter his host. Some interviewers, he avers, are not thrilled to rehash a 2015 campaign promise that the government ditched 13 months after taking office. “Any other interview, the interviewer’s eyes glaze over and they go, ‘OK, but give me something real you regret,’ right?” Trudeau says.

“No no no. For me, this is real.”
