Quite a weekend.
I see here that Althia Raj, David Cochrane and colleagues, Vassy Kapelos, JD Bellavance, Marieke Walsh and David Akin have picked up signs of a caucus revolt against Justin Trudeau. Don’t you just hate it when the MSM piles up on Pierre Poilievre?
I take the weekend’s news to be serious. “Liberals talking to reporters” is, after all, notoriously the third-or-fourth-to-last stop before “Liberals doing something.”
Vassy’s story seems to offer the clearest glimpse so far of what’s being discussed: The rebel alliance is “in discussions to formally release an ask for the prime minister to consider the future of the Liberal party in making a decision about whether to stay at the helm of it.” This country is so beautiful it makes me cry. American politics commemorates something called the Saturday-Night Massacre. Ours may yet look back fondly on the Discussions to Formally Release an Ask To Consider. One day there’ll be a Heritage Minute.
The obvious question is why the prime minister’s detractors are so timid. I think it’s because they know they have a weak hand. Trudeau might yet walk away. I know he’s been getting advice to do just that, for many months, from at least a few people he trusts. But if he resists, he’ll be very difficult to dislodge. Let’s consider why.
