The Panel: What Trump means for Canada

I reconvened my mildly-partisan partisans to make sense of the US returns

I’m as confused as you. Or at least, confused enough to bring in some reinforcements.

On the morning after the astonishing US election results, I reconvened the panel I debuted here several weeks ago to make sense of Donald Trump’s re-election and speculate about what it all means for Canada. I’m once again pleased to be joined by:

  • Marci Surkes, who was Justin Trudeau’s policy director from 2019 to 2022 and is now Chief Strategy Officer at Compass Rose;

  • Garry Keller, who was chief of staff to John Baird in government and Rona Ambrose in opposition, and is now a Vice President at StrategyCorp;

  • and Allison Gifford, who worked with Jack Layton in 2011 and is now VP (Policy and Public Affairs) at Clear Strategy.

They’ve all got a serious background as party members as well as long experience in the private sector in Ottawa. In Wednesday’s session they deliver useful analysis of the election outcome, before giving a fantastic insight into the conversations that are probably taking place today in Liberal, Conservative and NDP offices on Parliament Hill.

I’m gathering my own thoughts for a post that I hope to publish later today (the third post today, but what the heck, there’s news). Meanwhile, I’m really glad to be able to call in these experts.
