Great title Paul, and yet another strong piece. One dimension of this task force announcement that baffles me, is exactly how Cabinet Ministers can truly and practically address (on the assumption that immigration and passport processing is the focus of this group) what seems to be a long-building administrative failure on the part of the senior federal public service? Would not it have made more sense to have banged together the heads of the lead agencies (DMs) and have them report to an existing Cabinet committee by end July with action to be implemented by end August? What are the federal public service’s service standards and service obligations, one wonders? And how do these wait times compare with those of our G7 competitors (since we seem to be using that comparator in other policy domains such as covid deaths or inflation etc. etc.)? Comms strategy and service delivery cannot be delivered by the same groups of decision-makers.

1. This was worth this week's price of admission: "He seems trapped inside a tiny vocabulary of thought and action."
