1. It’s just not positive
Two things happened on Friday to remind us that Donald Trump’s empty heart makes him crave a breathtaking amount of sucking up, all the time.
The big thing that everyone noticed was that Trump and JD Vance jumped Volodomyr Zelensky in the Oval Office because, Vance said, Zelensky is ungrateful for American support. On that score, here is video of Zelensky thanking America again and again and again, for years:
The smaller thing that fewer people noticed was that in an interview with the Spectator magazine, Trump complained that Canada’s Conservative leader, Pierre Poilievre, is mean to him.
Here’s the whole excerpt. I’ve highlighted key passages. BD is the reporter; DJT is the President.
BD: The Conservatives obviously have taken a hit in the polls since some of the comments that you’ve made that the Liberals have leaned into. Do you think that they’re still going to be able to pull it out up there?
DJT: Well, I think his biggest problem is he’s not a MAGA guy, you know? I mean, he’s really not — he’s not a Trump guy at all.
BD: He’s more of a throwback Republican.
DJT: He’s… different. Making a big mistake. They all make that mistake. You know. They think they’re going to be the tough guy and they’re going to knock out Trump, and they end up getting the hell beat out of ’em. So I don’t know. I mean, I can’t tell you, Pierre. I just don’t know. I don’t like what he’s saying about me. It’s just not positive about me. And we’ve done a great job.
From there, Trump descends into yet another bout of ranting about the 2020 election being “rigged.”
Like all of us, Poilievre heard about Trump’s Oval Office confrontation with Zelensky, which might yet turn out to mark the collapse of NATO. But he couldn’t deal with it right away because a prominent person had said his first name. So early on Friday afternoon, he rushed this Tweet out:
It soon became clear that a lot of the people who actually run governments in the world had found the Trump-Vance-Zelensky confrontation more important. So five hours after the first Tweet, Poilievre sent this one out in an attempt to catch up:
