I missed this the first time around. I’m so pleased it was reposted as it’s a fascinating conversation. I’m going to re- read the updated edition of Claws just because it was so entertaining. I let my sub lapse for a while because….juggling too many media channels and….”this economy”. That was a mistake. I’m ditching the Globe and Mail and picking up a couple of substackers that I love. Money better spent.

I must have missed this important interview the first time out, so thanks for re-posting it. Auditors of this podcast and, obviously, readers of Manthorpe's books, which I must now add to my own reading list, should be more than outraged. What a soggy, gullible bunch of yahoos we Canadians are, starting with Norman Bethune. It's not like this information hasn't been around for decades, as Manthorpe points out. I knew or suspected some of this stuff, based on documentary films that I worked on over the years at the NFBC, including one about the CCP's ongoing Tibetan genocide, as well as first-hand testimonies from my Chinese friends who escaped the Communist regime in Hong Kong and mainland China to come to Canada. We've got a very rude awakening coming and I suspect well be paying for all those bargain-price, dollar store, Chinese goods a lot sooner than we think.

Jonathan Manthrope makes many valid points but, to repeat a comment I made when this interview was first published: "If we stopped importing from China, wouldn’t our stores be half-empty? Less junk, to be sure, but many would suffer withdrawal symptoms…"

Manthorpe's 3rd and "most difficult" things which must be done if we are to survive the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is "to change the culture of our captured elites" (political & business). His describes those who have arrived in Canada from the Chinese mainland since the handover of Hong Kong as seeing Canada as "a very alien place" because they have no experience of the civic values of a democracy and act as agents of the CCP. In an effort to help our 'captured elites' understand the 'alien' threat, I would recommend to them that they learn about The Borg, a creation of science fiction which the CCP must be using as it's template. Specifically, I suggest the following episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation:

Q Who (season 2, episode 16);

The Best of Both Worlds (season 3, episode 26; season 4, episode 1);

I, Borg (season 5, episode 23);
